Welcome To The New Website...

Welcome to My Website
Yes, I have a website now.
A proper one. Not just a collection of social media accounts where I occasionally appear, swear about something, announce I've had another book idea and then disappear for several hours because I've started researching whether vampires would technically need to breathe.
This feels dangerously professional.
Before anyone gets the wrong idea, I did not build it.
That would require patience, organisation and a willingness to spend several days arguing with buttons that have moved four pixels to the left. I possess none of those qualities.
Yasmine Van Hove built it for me.
Our arrangement was extremely sophisticated and definitely how legitimate businesses operate: she builds my website, and in return I provide conversation and book covers. Bartering is alive and well, apparently. To be fair, this arrangement works beautifully because Yasmine gets covers, I get a website, and neither of us has to pretend we're functioning members of society.
So, What Is This Place?
The website is basically somewhere for me to collect all the various things my brain keeps producing.
Obviously, there are the books. The Wrong Woman is already out there in the world, behaving itself considerably better than its author, and there are plenty more coming because writing one novel wasn't enough. I made the catastrophic discovery that I enjoy creating fictional people and then systematically ruining their lives. After all, why should I be the only one to suffer?
There are thrillers. Dark romance. Psychological horror. Medical horror. Vampires. Zombies. Stalkers. Serial killers. Questionable relationship dynamics. Occasionally something resembling normal human interaction. (Although there is no guarantee to this.)
Genre consistency has never been invited to the meeting.
There'll also be information about upcoming books, works in progress, covers, releases and whatever else escapes from my brain and becomes an actual project before somebody confiscates my laptop.
And Then There's This Blog
This part could become a problem. Social media has character limits and society has decided I shouldn't be allowed to rant indefinitely underneath a Facebook post.
Fucking cowards.
Here, I can write about books, writing, publishing, tropes, research, dark fiction, things that irritate me (of which there are many) and the bizarre questions I inevitably encounter while trying to make fictional nonsense believable.
Some posts will probably be useful. Some will begin with a perfectly reasonable subject and end somewhere so completely unrelated that neither of us remembers why we're there.
That's part of the experience.
This Isn't Going to Become One Long Advert
I promise.
Obviously I'll talk about my books. This is my author website. Pretending otherwise would be a particularly stupid form of marketing. But I don't want this place to exist purely to repeatedly yell BUY MY BOOK at anyone unfortunate enough to wander through the door.
You can already find sales pitches everywhere. I want this to feel more like finding the slightly questionable back room behind the books.
The ideas. The research. The things that didn't make it onto the page. Why I write certain things the way I do. My increasingly complicated relationship with genre conventions. The occasional rant about something I've seen online that has annoyed me enough to become several hundred words.
Basically, the person behind the books.
Which may or may not encourage you to read them.
Welcome to Whatever This Becomes
I genuinely have no idea what this website will look like a year from now.
A few months ago, several of the things now sitting on these pages didn't exist either. I've learned that making confident predictions about what I'm going to create next is largely pointless because my brain treats plans as polite suggestions. And I use polite in the loosest sense possible.
So have a look around.
Read the FAQs if you'd like to discover far more about me than any reasonable author biography should contain. Have a nose through the books. Read the blog. Come back occasionally and see what new thing has appeared because I had an idea at 2am and nobody stopped me.
And if the website itself looks suspiciously competent, remember:
That bit was Yasmine.
I just live here.
(And I wholeheartedly think you should check out her books and other works here)
